PRESS: Russia shops want parents fined for alcohol sales to minors

MOSCOW, Aug 26 (PRIME) -- The Russian Retail Companies’ Association (AKORT) is preparing legislation amendments, under which not only retail outlets, but also parents will eb responsible for selling alcohol to children under age, business daily Kommersant reported on Friday, citing documents of the association.

AKORT said that the Administrative Offences Code must contain a stipulation of 2,000–3,000 ruble penalties for parents who do not fulfill their “liability to ensure fulfillment of a prohibition for minors to purchase alcoholic goods,” it said. The association also offered to raise the fine to 4,000–5,000 rubles for repeat offenders.

The penalties for alcohol sales to minors are 30,000–50,000 rubles for individuals, 100,000–200,000 rubles for officials of organizations and 300,000–500,000 rubles for organizations. Repeat offenders are criminally liable.
